☀️ BDCM Summer Untensive

☀️ BDCM Summer Untensive

This is not your average dance intensive.

It is a gathering place. A study hall. A rehearsal for the world we deserve.

The BDCM Summer Untensive brings dancers, artists, and movement-based organizers together to move, study, build, and practice collective care.

We gather because dancers are more than bodies in motion.

We are workers.
We are culture-makers.
We are witnesses, caretakers, strategists, and people with the power to shift what happens in the studio, on stage, and in the streets.

This space is designed for Black dancers and movement-based organizers asking deeper questions about safety, labor, power, artistry, and collective responsibility.

The Untensive is not about perfecting choreography.

It is about rehearsing possibility.

Over two days, we will move through:

  • Political Education

  • Embodied Practice

  • Leadership Development

  • Advocacy Tools

  • Community Care

  • Honest Conversation

Featured Speakers

Abolitionist Imaginations

We are asking what safety can mean when it is not built on punishment, policing, respectability, exclusion, or fear.

We are asking what it takes to create rehearsal rooms, stages, organizations, classrooms, homes, and communities where Black dancers are not only seen, but believed, protected, resourced, and free.

Abolitionist imagination asks us to do more than critique the systems that harm us. It asks us to practice the alternatives.
To make agreements. To build trust. To tell the truth. To repair what we can. To refuse what we must.
To remember that safety is not something we wait for someone else to give us.

We keep us safe.

And we rehearse that together.

Day 1

Day 2

Day 0 - Orientation

The BDCM Summer Untensive is built by and for dancers and organizers who believe that movement can change the world—and who are ready to step into that power with curiosity, care, and courage.

This space is for you if:

Whether you're a seasoned organizer, a dance student seeking purpose, or someone just beginning to question the systems you're a part of—this space is designed to meet you where you are and invite you into deeper community.

If you’re feeling the call—to move, to organize, to unlearn, to imagine something new—then this is your moment.

Claim your spot. Show up for yourself, your people, and the future of dance + liberation.

Your support fuels this radical space—help us provide scholarships, food, speakers, and more.

Ask your studio, dance company, school, or workplace to invest in your growth. We’ve created a resource to help you make the ask with clarity and confidence—because this work deserves to be resourced.

💸 Sliding Scale Ticket Pricing

We offer sliding-scale pricing to honor the diverse experiences and access to resources within our community.
You're invited to choose the tier that best reflects your financial capacity and your relationship to this work.

🎟️ Tickets start at $125, with multiple options available so that this space can remain rooted in accessibility, sustainability, and collective care.

We are deeply grateful to the Partners and Sponsors who are helping bring the BDCM Summer Untensive to life. Their support, through resources, collaboration, and care, is making it possible for us to gather, learn, and build something powerful together.

  • The BDCM Summer Untensive is a two-day gathering for dancers, artists, and movement-based organizers who want to build power, practice care, and connect artistry to action.

Unlike a traditional dance intensive, the Untensive focuses on leadership, advocacy, political education, embodied practice, and collective transformation.

  • The Untensive is for dancers, artists, cultural workers, and movement-based organizers ages 18+ who are passionate about advocacy, leadership, Black liberation, and making change in the dance field and beyond.

You should attend if you are:

    • A Black dancer, student, professional, teacher, choreographer, educator, administrator, or leader

    • A dance educator or community organizer looking to engage in movement-based advocacy

    • A BDCM HOMIE or non-member who aligns with our mission

    • Interested in using dance as a tool for social change

    • Not Black, but committed to Black liberation, anti-racist organizing, and learning from Black-led movement traditions with humility and care

This event is not for people looking for a traditional dance technique intensive.

  • There will be embodied practices and movement-based sessions, but this is not a technique-based intensive.

Movement will be used as a tool for grounding, storytelling, organizing, reflection, and connection. You do not need to prepare choreography or be at a specific technical level to participate.

  • The Summer Untensive is like a huge mutual aid campaign. We are pooling our resources to make this gathering happen together. Every registration is a seed planted in rich soil—rooted in care and collective power. It grows into shared meals, creative tools, sacred space, and the stipends that honor our community’s labor. Together, we are tending something bigger than any one of us.

We offer sliding scale pricing to allow you to choose the payment tier that best reflects your access to resources and your relationship to this work. No matter what you choose, your presence is valuable.

    🖤 BDCM HOMIES – $125
This tier is for current members of Black Dance Change Makers. Your presence is the heartbeat of this space. Thank you for continuing to build, organize, and move with us!

    💛 Solidarity Tier – $250
This tier is for non-Black community members with the financial means to pay full price and support equitable access. Your ticket helps us subsidize attendance for Black dancers who need a reduced rate and ensures this space remains rooted in care, joy, and justice.
You’re not just attending — you’re standing in solidarity with the movement.
📌 Note: If you are non-Black but do not have financial resources to pay the Solidarity Rate, you are welcome to select the Non-BDCM HOMIES Rate instead.

    🤝 Ally Tier – $375
This tier is for individuals or institutions who want to go beyond attending and actively resource this space. Your contribution covers your participation and supports someone else’s. It’s an invitation to deepen your relationship with Black Dance Change Makers and the liberatory work we’re building together.
