Where the HOMIES At?!
We’re organizing Black dancers to build power, transform their communities, and reimagine what leadership in dance looks like. Membership at BDCM isn’t about networking—it's about organizing.
It’s about being part of a real movement—one grounded in care, courage, and collective action.
HOMIES
HOMIES
More Than a Network. A Political Home.
Our HOMIES Program is for Black dancers ready to connect, build, and act. As one of the HOMIES, you’re part of a cohort of dancers working to answer one central question:
What is the dancer’s role in the revolution?
We know dancers and artists have always been at the frontlines — organizing, healing, storytelling, and leading change.
The HOMIES Program makes that intentional.

What Does It Actually Mean to be one of the HOMIES?
Let’s be real: time is tight. Life is full.
But we don’t need perfection — we need presence.
Being one of the HOMIES means:
Showing up when and how you can, with intention
Finding ways to contribute that align with your capacity and values
Being in honest relationship with your community
Committing to grow, challenge, and care with others
You don’t have to do everything. Just be in motion with us.
The Process
Apply
Submit your application and tell us a bit about who you are and why this work speaks to you. Applications are open year-round, but we bring in new members twice a year as part of a cohort.
Applications are open for Cohort #5 until July 31, 2025!
Orientation and Training for this cohort will be in August - September 2025.
Train!
Once accepted, you'll be invited to join a multi-week "Freedom School" training series with your cohort. These sessions will ground you in our values, political education, and ways of organizing together.
Each cohort is named after a Black dancer or (D)ancestor who inspires our movement, honoring those who’ve paved the way for us.
Lock In!
Make Some Change!
Once orientation wraps, you’re fully in. You’ll gain access to the “group chat,” get plugged into our campaigns, check-ins, and projects, and start shaping the future with other HOMIES.
Whether you're leading, supporting, or learning — you’re part of the rhythm now.
How We Sustain the Work
Our movement is powered by our people.
That means everyone contributes — in the ways they can.
When we each bring what we can, we build something bigger than ourselves.
We ask HOMIES to support BDCM through:
-
Show up for check-ins, campaigns, and collective work.
-
$10/month helps fund our organizing, trainings, and care-centered operations.
-
Bring what you’ve got — and what you’re growing into. Whether it’s creativity, strategy, care, or vision, your gifts are part of what makes this movement powerful.

FAQs
-
During your first two months, you'll complete 4 hours of required training, with 2 additional recommended hours each month.
After that, you'll attend a monthly 2-hour Change Makers Check-In. From there, you can choose your own adventure—plug into a campaign, collaborate asynchronously, or lead something new based on your capacity.
Most sessions are recorded and we make sure key information is shared so you're never out of the loop.
TL;DR: Expect 6+ hours/month during training. After that, 2+ hours/month.

We’re not a performance-based organization. We’re a movement-based political home. At BDCM, we organize, educate, and build power with and for Black dancers. Our focus is on transformation, not presentation.
-
Campaigns are created and led by members. If there’s an issue impacting our people, we build around it. From brainstorming to direct action, members drive the vision, and the collective shapes how we show up. Everyone brings something to the table: ideas, energy, and action.
-
Our "Freedom School" includes sessions that introduce BDCM’s values and approach to organizing. It’s a mix of political education, strategy, and tools to help you lead and collaborate.

Nope. If you dance, you’re a dancer.
-
Just reach out. We won’t turn you away.
-
Not at all.
We ask for presence and honesty. Move in rhythm with full commitment with your true capacity.
