Where the HOMIES At?!

We’re organizing Black dancers to build power, transform their communities, and reimagine what leadership in dance looks like. Membership at BDCM isn’t about networking—it's about organizing.
It’s about being part of a real movement—one grounded in care, courage, and collective action.

HOMIES

HOMIES

Our HOMIES Program is for Black-identifying dancers ready to connect, build, and act. As one of the HOMIES, you’re part of a cohort of dancers working to answer one central question:

More Than a Network. A Political Home.

We know dancers have always been at the frontlines — organizing, healing, storytelling, and leading change.

The HOMIES Program makes that intentional.

What is the dancer’s role in the revolution?

What Does It Actually Mean to be one of the HOMIES?

Let’s be real: time is tight. Life is full.
But we don’t need
perfection — we need presence.

Being one of the HOMIES means:

  • Showing up when and how you can, with intention

  • Finding ways to contribute that align with your capacity and values

  • Being in honest relationship with your community

  • Committing to grow, challenge, and care with others

You don’t have to do everything. Just be in motion with us.

We stick together. Through rhythm, through balancing flexibility with strength, through courageously inspiring others to join in, and be a part of a real movement.

BLACK DANCE CHANGE MAKERS

Become one of the “HOMIES!”

Holding Our Membership through Intentional Education and Skill Building

At Black Dance Change Makers, we believe that dance is more than an art form; it is a transformative force that has the power to heal, inspire, and create social change. Our passion for dance goes beyond the confines of a stage. We see it as a vehicle for connection, empowerment, organizing, and mobilization.

With every movement, we honor the rich legacies of those who have paved the way for us. We stand on the shoulders of giants, recognizing the strength and resilience of the Black community. As we dance, we carry their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs.

But our mission doesn't stop there. We are committed to blazing a safe and inclusive path for those who will change the world after us. We are building a community that moves with curiosity, centered around personhood and collective care. Together, we strive to create a space where every individual can freely express themselves, find their voice, and embrace their unique talents.

Join us at Black Dance Change Makers, where movement becomes a revolution.

Let’s make some Change!

The Process

Step 1

Submit an Application.

At Black Dance Change Makers, we move at the speed of trust. Our platform is designed for people who want to join an ever-growingever-changingever-learning community.

Our goal is not quantity but quality. We accept applications year-round and admit members bi-annually, allowing all prospective members to complete an orientation and “freedom school” training series to acclimate to the BDCM community dynamic.

We accept applications on a rolling basis and encourage you to apply now! We will reach out when we are accepting members for our next cohort.

Applications are open for Cohort #4 until January 31, 2025!

Orientation and Training for this cohort will be in February - March 2025.

Step 2

“Freedom School”

We offer bi-annual trainings to introduce prospective members to our mission, values, and how we move as a collective.

In addition to learning about the BDCM History, our training includes sessions on Navigating the Industry While Black, white supremacy culture, Conflict Resolution, and Navigation, and supplementary training on things like Wellness, Budgeting, Visioning, Dreaming, and mapping your Dance Lineage.

New members will also learn about our participatory budgeting process, and how to build and shape projects and campaigns with the collective.
